The Electoral Commission (EC) has suggested the wrong dates detected on voter ID cards issued to new voters are not as widespread as has been suggested on social media.
The Commission says the errors were detected in only two registration centers in the Ashanti region out of 3,500 centers nationwide.
According to the Commission, the anomaly affected only 31 voters and has since been rectified.
The limited voter registration exercise began Thursday 28 April 2016. But pictures of ID cards displaying the date 27 April 2016 triggered backlash on social media.
Already, the Commission has faced negative reaction after it replaced the 24-year old logo with a new one as part of a re-branding strategy. Critics say it is a misplaced priority.
New logo
The error on the dates was therefore held out as an example of what should concern the Electoral Commission instead of unveiling a new logo.
But the Commission has explained the error was caused by operators handling the registration machines. In a statement released Friday, the Commission indicated that there is no cause for concern because changes will be effected.
