One of the three South African ex-police officers being held by Ghana’s Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for offering illegal training to prospective bodyguards of the flagbearer of the biggest opposition party, Nana Akufo-Addo, and his running mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, was a regular visitor to Iraq, Deputy Communication Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu has revealed.

“Let me give you the history of one of them, the youngest amongst them is widely travelled, he frequents Iraq very often; that is history that you cannot discount. …No self-respecting security agency will overlook such a fact,” Mr Kwakye Ofosu told Samson Lardy Anyenini on Muti TV’s newsfile programme on Saturday March 26, 2016 to justify why they are being held by the BNI.

Breaking News: Agric. Ministry Lack Fund To Work..... Minister

The fight to eradicate rabies from Ghana may suffer a major setback because key donor funding for the vaccination efforts has been withdrawn. 

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has revealed that this has forced them to reduce their rate of rabies vaccinations of susceptible animals. 

Last year, the Veterinary Service of Ghana warned of more rabies related deaths, as they recorded an acute shortage of dog vaccines. 

There are fears the number of rabies cases could increase this year as the number of stray dogs continue to increase on the streets of Accra and other parts of the country.

Government has revealed that the three South African ex Police officers arrested by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI)who were engaged in acts that threatens national security lied about where they were to lodge in Ghana.

According to the Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the detainees indicated in their travel documents that there were to be accommodated at the Movimpick Hotel or the Alisa Hotel in Accra but rather lodged at Agona Duakwa in the Central region where they were picked up.

The three, Major Ahmed Shaik Hazis, 54, (Rtd), WO/ Denver Dwayhe Naidu, 39, (Rtd) and 45-year-old Captain Mlungiseleli Jokani (Rtd) were arrested at the El-Capitano Hotel, while training fifteen young men in various military drills, including unarmed combat, weapon handling, VIP protection techniques and rapid response maneuvers.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed the 15 people being trained by three South African ex-police men are part of its security detail, but denied links to any treasonable motive.

An order for the release of the three former South African police officers to the registrar of the Accra Circuit Court until all their bail conditions are met has been defied by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

Ghana’s deputy minister of communications, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, has stated that the three South African nationals arrested by the country’s Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) on Monday March 21, had in their possession military accoutrements.

The three men, Chris Hazis, 54, also known as Major Ahmed Shaik (rtd), WO/Denver Dwayhe Naidu (rtd), 39, and Captain Mlungiseleli Jokani (rtd), 45, were picked up at the El Capitano Hotel at Agona Duakwa in the Central region.

Breaking News: Police Refute Claims On Volta NPP Group

The police in Ho have refuted claims they prevented the health walk of a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group called Volta For Change, Saturday.

According to officials of the Police Department, they invited the leaders of the group to clarify the true intention of their health walk and not to stop them as it is alleged.

Volta Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service, PeterKin Yentumi Gyinae said the rationale behind the invitation was genuine and was to iron out some outstanding issues with the leadership of the group.

PRESS RELEASE: ARREST OF THREE (3) SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONALS

1. Three (3) South-African Nationals namely, Ahmed Shaik HAZIS, Denver Dwayne NAIDU and Mlungiseleli JOKANI were arrested on 20/03/16 at EL CAPITANO Hotel at AGONA DUAKWA in the Central Region by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI). They were arrested while training fifteen (15) men in various security drills.

2. Two (2) of the suspects, JOKANI and NAIDU arrived in the country on 14/03/16 on South-African passport numbers A05213410 and M00096231 respectively. HAZIS arrived on 05/03/16 with Passport Number M00052092. HAZIS has visited Ghana several times between 2012 and 2016. They came into the country on B1 visas (temporary visas) for business.
