The Daily Statesman can report that some heavyweights in the National Democratic Congress who played pivotal roles in the scheme of affairs of the governing party during the administration of the late President John Evans Atta Mills are not happy about how they have been currently sidelined by President John Dramani Mahama.

These people who were seen as virtual ‘movers and shakers’ of the NDC, and were very instrumental in the electoral victory of the late president, include Kojo Tsikata, Nunu Mensah and the Ahwoi brothers.
President Mahama, the paper can report, has completely ignored these party giants when it comes to taking key decisions regarding the direction of the the governing NDC, especially regarding his 2012 campaign.
What has made the situation very worrying to them is that the President now takes decisions mainly with his family members and friends, with little regard even for the leadership of the NDC.
The party’s National Chairman, Kofi Porthuphy, and the General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, are said to be very unhappy about the president’s conduct, even though they are pretending all is well.
Their major fear is that if President Mahama has decided not to listen to them at this time that he is seeking re-election, then the situation could be worse if he manages to secure another term of office.
“In fact, President Mahama now thinks his family members and friends are more important when it comes to issues about our party. Every party has certain key personalities who cannot just be pushed aside. People like the Ahwoi brothers have toiled to sustain the NDC over the years and as a matter of respect for their age and experience, we would have expected that the president will ensure their active involvement in taking vital decisions regarding the direction of the party. But that has not been the case with President Mahama who thinks his family and friends now matter more than everybody in the party. That is very worrying,” our source in the NDC lamented yesterday.
For the Ahwoi brothers and other pro-Mills elements in the NDC, what seemed to have broken the camel’s back was the decision by President Mahama to support Kofi Adams to become the party’s National Organiser, and his subsequent appointment as the National Co-ordinator of the 2016 presidential campaign.
“They think that decision by the president has done a great disservice to the memory of the late President Mills in view of the fact that Kofi Adams was the number one critic of the the late Mills.  I don’t think you have forgotten the fact that Kofi Adams led the campaign of Nana Konadu Agyekum Rawlings, during the ‘FONKAR-GAMES’, seeking to get the late President Mills out as our candidate for the 2012 elections,” our source added.
Meanwhile, a group known as the ‘Friends of Atta Mills and Atta Movement’, formed to champion the political ambition of the late President Mills in the heat of the FONKAR-GAMES, has accused the NDC leadership of seeking to annihilate the legacy of the late President.
According to Nii Laryea, a leading member of the group, this development support claims by Papa Kwesi Nduoum, Presidential Candidate of the Progressive People’s Party, that the NDC rejoiced over the death of the late President.
Members of group want Kofi Adams to formally apologise to the late President Mills and his family for working against him and the NDC during the heat of the party’s presidential primaries in 2012.
