The Ghana Cargo Association at Salaga and Yeji has called on President John Dramani Mahama for a new ferry on the Volta lake. The ferry on lake broke down in 2015 almost 12 months ago and cargo and cars are unable to cross the lake from the Manknagu end in the Northern Region to Yeji for commute to Kumasi in the Ashanti region.

These association at Salaga and Yeji has complained bitterly to the appropriate quarters for along and thus affecting their operations negatively. They have also complained about the long commute to transport goods in Salaga to Kumasi as they now have to go back to Tamale through Techiman to Kumasi which normally takes between two to three days.

Abdul Rahman Haruna, the Secretary for the Ghana Cargo Association, Salaga branch told Citi News that. “now that the ferry is not working, the assembly is losing revenue, farmers are complaining because their farm produce are getting rotten on the road because trucks no longer pass through Yeji which is a one day journey, drivers also complain about fuel cost, wear and tear of their vehicles. We are therefore appealing to the president to listen to us and come to our aid.” “We were told that the ferry at Akrade near Senchi was to be brought here to assist the old one and that it was going to be dismantled because it could not pass under the Adomi bridge and will be reassembled at Akosombo but till date we haven’t heard anything about it again. The over forty year old ferry is being rehabilitated and for almost a year now it’s not working.”
