Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has praised the Queen of Obogu, Nana Akua Pokua II, for selecting the right candidate to occupy the paramountcy of the Obogu Traditional Area

He stressed that the queen did not select the candidate from her own royal lineage but rather looked beyond it to select a candidate from another royal gate who she felt was equally competent.
The Asantehene said such a pragmatic decision by the queen needed to be applauded, emphasising that such laudable example could be emulated by other queens.
Oath of allegiance
Otumfuo gave the commendation when the new Paramount Chief (Omanhene) of the Obogu Traditional Area, Nana Oduro Apenteng Darkwa ll, swore the oath of allegiance to him in the presence of all the Amanhene of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs at a ceremony at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The chief, known in private life as Dr Ben Nathan Donkor, 54, is the Executive Director of the Timber Industry Development Division of the Forestry Commission.
He succeeded Nana Owusu-Asiama II, who reigned for 43 years and died after a protracted illness.
The Asantehene said it was becoming a habit of some of the queens to select candidates from their own lineage, neglecting the other gates.
Advice
He advised paramount chiefs to promote unity among the people in their respective traditional areas and provide the necessary leadership for them to formulate  meaningful programmes for development.
Otumfuo also commended Nana Darkwa for his many contributions to the progress of the town, even at the time when he was not the chief and was of the belief that he could bring more of such progress in the area.
He, therefore, advised the elders to give the new chief all the needed support to enable him to exhibit his sterling leadership qualities to enhance development in the area.
For his part, Nana Darkwa promised to abide by the advice of Otumfuo and work in concert with the people to help transform the fortunes of the people.
