The governing National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Korle Klottey constituency, Zenator Rawlings, Friday, appealed to electorates in the area to vote massively for her in the December 7 parliamentary polls because she has already started working to improve on their living standards.
Zenator told hundreds of potential voters at a parliamentary debate between candidates vying for the Korle Klottey constituency seat that she has managed to get paid internship programs at the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) for 93 people in the constituency and promised to do more for them when given the mandate to represent the constituency in parliament.
“About three months ago, the YEA opened an internship program. During that period, we were able to register 93 people who have started working at the Police Hospital as paid internships. And so, it is not something that we are going to do – we are already doing it,” she said.
The debate which was aired live on ‘Ghana Kasa’, a news and current affairs program on Kasapa 102.5 FM also had three other candidates; Nii Noi Nortey, a former constituency chairman who broke away from the NPP and now going independent, Philip Addison representing the NPP and another candidate from the GCPP, also interacting with the constituents.
Zenator commenting further, said she is more determined to solving the unemployment issues confronting the youth in the constituency when voted to represent the area in parliament.
One of the key issues she spoke about in addressing this phenomenon was to train the youth “to have the needed skills to make a living because it is not everyone that can get a chance to work in the Police Service, Fire Service and at the office.”
“We have to change the paradigm in term of what employment is about. These are part of the programs that I am pursuing for my people”, she added.
Further to that, she said the health needs of the people remain a priority in her scheme of things and will do all things possible to ensure that they remain healthy all the time.
She said as part of her plans to ensure that her people are in good health, she organized a health screening exercise where over 1,500 people were recorded.
This, together with other programs, she noted, will vigorously be pursued when voted as the MP for the area.
