A lawyer with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), lawyer Edudzie Tamakloe has said that the error in the nomination forms of the flagbeaerer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), leading to his disqualification is because of his incessant demand for the autopsy report of the late President, John Evans Atta-Mills.
The PPP Flagbearer, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has in recent times on various political platforms, asked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to produce the autopsy report of the late president to clear the doubt of Ghanaians on the true cause of the president’s death.
The General Secretary of the PPP, Murtala Mohammed, also at a national rally of the party dared the NDC to release the autopsy report to prove their innocence.
“If you didn’t kill Mills and if you are not happy Mills died, produce the autopsy report. We are challenging John Mahama to produce the autopsy report of [late] President Mills. The Central Region people here, I want you to listen to me: if John Mahama comes to your region, tell him to produce the autopsy report,” he insisted.
Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, is one of the Presidential candidates who has been disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) over administrative errors on their nomination forms.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission Mrs Charlotte Osei said the PPP’s flagbearer was disqualified because the number of subscribers to his forms did not meet the requirements of Regulation 7 (2) (b) of CI 94.
The commission said, one of his subscribers endorsed the form with different signatures in both portions of the nomination form, raising questions as to the legitimacy of one or both signatures.
But in a brief media address on Monday, Chairman of the Progressive People’s Party, Dr. Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond, said attempts by party officials to seek clarity on the disqualification of its candidate had proven futile, as the EC’s offices were closed at the time of their visit not long after they heard of Dr. Nduom’s disqualification in the media.
Though some section of the public has criticised the EC as high-handed and unfair, lawyer Edudzie Tamakloe believes the PPP leader would have met the requirement needed by the commission if he had concentrated mostly on the filling of his forms instead of throwing salvos at the NDC over Mill’s death.
“I believe Papa Kwesi Nduom failed to fill his forms well and was disqualified from the race because he was chasing Mills autopsy report. What would have an autopsy report done to you if you had better things such as filling your forms very well without any unreasonable mistake to finish? He is just ridiculous” he said on Accra based Radio Gold Saturday.
Describing the PPP founder as “incompetent” lawyer Edudzie Tamakloe called for the prosecution of Papa Kwesi Nduom since his actions amounts to what he described as fraud.
“You have no moral to say Mahama is incompetent because not filling your forms well with that unnecessary errors means you are indeed incompetent and ought to be prosecuted immediately because you (Papa Kwesi) have engaged in serious fraud” he asserted.
Meanwhile, the PPP has sued the Electoral Commission in a bid to reverse the disqualification of its presidential nominee, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom.
The PPP’s suit was filed by former Attorney General in the erstwhile Kufour administration, Nii Ayikoi Otoo.
