The Aburi Police in the Akwapim South District of the Eastern Region is investigating the murder of a Fulani herdsman and the kidnapping of another by four assailants.

The Fulani herdsman who was identified only as Karim and believed to be in his 50s was murdered in cold blood on Tuesday dawn by four persons.

The alleged assailants were said to have stormed their ranch between 3:30am and 4:00am at Adomrebe with the excuse of looking for their missing cattle.

The assailants, according to Adomonline.com sources, stormed the ranch with a pump action gun and a single barrel gun.

“Immediately after they entered the ranch, they headed straight to a room in the ranch where he was sleeping and attacked him. He was shot and killed in cold blood…,” the source said.

One other Fulani herdsman, Abubakar believed to be in his mid-30s who was sleeping in a separate room upon hearing the gun shots, was said to have rushed out from his room which had been built at a separate location in the ranch to see what was happening.

The alleged assailants immediately took him hostage.

The source added that the alleged assailants, after further deliberation decided to take Abubakar to the police station and describe him as a robber they arrested at dawn.

Unknown to the assailants however, Abubakar understood Twi and told the Aburi police that the four persons had already gunned down his father in the ranch.
This prompted the Aburi Police to quickly arrest the four persons who had taken him to the station.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Karim, who walked with the aid of a stick, had indeed been gunned down at the ranch.

When contacted, the Aburi Police confirmed the arrest but could not give further details.

The body of Karim has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
