CNN's Fred Pleitgen offers more perspective on the difficulty in getting heavy lifting equipment and more emergency workers into the devastated towns that need them. Narrow roads leading to the towns are blocked with debris. He said he recently visited the main access road to Amatrice and saw "a lot of trucks standing there, with mobile clinics ... mobile operation rooms."
Michael Gilroy says he was sleeping on the second floor of a building in central Italy when the quake rattled him awake. "It felt like the bed was on rollers. We all immediately ran out." When he decided to venture back in, "the ceiling was very audibly creaking."
