The Tema Regional Police have denied media reports that the police have declared the founder and leader of the International Godsway Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim wanted.

It was reported that the Police in Tema have given Bishop Daniel Obinim 24 hours to honour their invitation or they will be forced to take action against him if he does not report to the Tema Police Command on Monday August 21, 2016.

The Bishop has come under attack after he whipped a young man and his girlfriend, both of whom are said to be his adopted children with a leather belt in the full glare of his congregation in church and later invited one of his right-hand men to join in the whipping, on Wednesday, August 17. The whipping was shown live on his Ice TV station.

The Gender Ministry lodged a formal complaint at the Domestic Violence and Victim's Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service after the video went viral. Two individuals have also sued the Bishop and the church.

But Public Relations Officer, ASP Juliana Obeng in an interview said the Tema police have not declared Bishop Obinim wanted.

According to her, the police only served a letter of invitation last Friday.
“The Tema Police has not declared Obinim wanted and we have not given him any ultimatum.

We served him a letter to report to us last Friday but we were told he wasn’t around and therefore couldn’t honour our invitation.

“That does not mean we should declare him wanted. The issue is that if we invite a person, the date on the letter is when we expect the person and not any other day” she stated on Adom FM's Dwaso Nsem morning show.

This notwithstanding, ASP Obeng said since Obinim is “not above the law”, police will announce the next line of action soon.
