Minority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has said further clarification is needed on the autopsy report of the 27-year-old man, who was allegedly beaten to death by three police officers at Krofrom in the Ashanti Region.

The autopsy report released by the police cited heart failure as the cause of death despite reports that the deceased, Osei Tawiah, was allegedly beaten to death after police officers on patrol mistook him for a criminal.

Irate youth in the town who disagreed with the autopsy report, conveyed their anger with protests against the police.

Autopsy report ambiguous

Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Mensah Bonsu highlighted the ambiguity of the report saying, “I am not a medical officer, but I thought if the report said the person died of heart attack, it could arise from anything”.

A clearer explanation as to the cause of death is needed in the minority leader’s view. “I would think further clarification may have to be sought with respect to what the report says,” he stated.

The details of the death notwithstanding, Mr. Mensah Bonsu stressed that a life had been lost and that “is not happy news even if it is from natural causes.”

Manhyia North MP unconvinced by report

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Collins Amankwa, toed the line of the protester’s by saying he was not convinced by the autopsy report absolving three police officers of any wrongdoing.

“I share the sentiment of my people. These reports suggesting that he died as a result of heart failure are imaginations. The fact of the matter is that we are not satisfied,” he said.
