Assemblyman for Ridge Nhyiaeso in Kumasi, Abraham Boadi, has accused the Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu for the violent clashes over the fencing of a cemetery in Tafo.
The Tafo community has been placed under a curfew following clashes between some Muslim youth and the traditional authorities in the area.
The locals and traditional authorities are reportedly fighting off attempts
by the Muslims to fence off a portion of the cemetery in the area.
The Pentecost, ICGC and Liberty Global Christian Churches, as well as a mosque were reportedly attacked in the clashes.
One person has also been killed in the process.
Abraham Boadi, who is popularly known as ‘Opohmon’, claims Kojo Bonsu permitted a Muslim group to fence the said cemetery in 2014 without due diligence even after the assembly approved about GHC1.5Billion for the project.
According to him, the assembly set up a 7-member committee to investigate the permit but Mr Bonsu refused to stop the group from erecting the wall.
He added that Kojo Bonsu’s failure to act created ideal conditions for the formation of factions which has led to the current clash.
But spokesperson for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Sammy Gyamfi has described the claim as a ‘mere lie’ meant to tarnish the image of the mayor.
“The accusation this man is leveling against the mayor is false. They just want to tarnish his image,” he stated
