Some three hundred members of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asutifi South Constituency in the Brong Ahafo Region have defected to the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
They say harsh economic conditions and rising unemployment among the youth in the area have become unbearable, thus their decision to join the NPP.
Mr Benjamin Kofi Amponsah, a former youth leader of the NDC in the constituency told journalists that young graduates in the area have no choice but to sit at home because they cannot find jobs to do.
He said the promise by the flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo to build a factory in each of the 216 constituencies across the country as well as build an irrigation dam in every farming community in the northern part of the country, are programmes that will provide jobs for the youth do do.
“So we sat down and realised that there is no need to follow the NDC again,” he added.
