Assad Mallah, patron of Kumasi Asante Kotoko and the Sportswriters Association of Ghana (SWAG) has appealed to the Asante Kotoko board to recommend to the club’s owner, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to extend the tenure of the current Kotoko management to two years to enable it to complete the good work done so far.
A statement issued in Accra by the veteran sports administrator said in his estimation, the current Kotoko management was the best since the Simms Mensah and the Yaw Bawuah eras in the early 80’s.
He recalled with nostalgia the exploits of the current Chief Executive, Opoku Nti, in Kotoko’s historic 1983 Africa Cup triumph and the technical role played by Malik Jabir, and said with little more time, the duo would help Coach Michael Osei to hit the expected high mark Kotoko are known for.
Assad also recalled the strong administrative support Yaw Bawuah had in 1983 from stalwarts such as Antwi Gyamfi, Major Yaw Larsen, Alhaji Yahya Gibrine, Col George Pattington, Allan Gyimah, Kwabena Akosa and himself, and said the current manement could also be a force if given more time.
He argued that the Opoku Nti management did not perform badly in the just-ended season and he was confident that with the solid foundation laid, the team would be trenchant in the not too distant future.
Assad also took the opportunity to congratulate GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, on his recent election to the FIFA Executive Board.
He also congratulated his friend and colleague SWAG Patron, Mr Amarkai Amarteifio, on helping to bring back Accra Great Olympics into the national premier football league and Mr Talal Fattal of Metro TV for the support  to the Oly Dade club.
