The Ghana Institute of Journalism has banned students from wearing “mini-skirts and shorts” to lectures, management of the school has announced.

Speaking at the matriculation of fresh students for the 2016/2017 academic year, Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Dr. Wilberforce Dzisah cautioned students to desist from the wearing of “mini-skirts and shorts” or face sanctions.

According to him, the directive follows concerns by management of the school about indecent dressing among students hence their decision to ensure students do as such.

Referring students to page 60 of the institution’s students’ handbook which specifically deals with general comportment he stated:

“Since the beginning of lectures on August 29,2016, Management noted with concern the increase in indecent dressing by students. Management has therefore decided on the following and this should not only go to fresh men and women but for the continuing students as well. No shorts or mini-skirts are to be worn for lectures. Clothes which expose your vital parts shall not be entertained,” he warned.

“Management will apply sanctions with regards to any violations of these directives,” he added.

Dr. Dzisah noted that the primary aim of the students was to study and successfully complete their prescribed academic programmes and that such provocative clothing had the tendency to take students off their focus.
