Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has confessed that he orchestrated the removal of Kojo Bonsu and Afrifa Yamoah Ponko as the Metropolitan and Municipal Chief Executives in the Ashanti Region.
Kojo Bonsu resigned his post as Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Boss following the complaints from chiefs and people of the region.
The CEO after failing to reconcile with the chiefs resigned the post following series of threats and counter threats from the Asanteman Council and residents of the Garden City.
Yamoah Ponko was also removed as the Municipal Chief Executive of Ejisu-Juaben by President Mahama.
He was subsequently nominated for the post but failed to garner the needed percentage to gain approval as MCE after several attempts.
And these, Chairman Wontumi speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Programme on Thursday said were orchestrated by him.
He said he has no regrets over his actions as the two never served the interests of the people of the region but that of their followers and party members.
“I'm the governor of Ashanti and I make sure that I accomplish whatever I set myself to do. Who knew that Kojo Bonsu and Yamoah Ponkoh would be removed from office? Thanks to me. I will uproot all corrupt DCE’s and MCE’s in the region…,” he boasted on the show.
To him, the efforts at unseating the two would not have been successful if they indeed performed creditably well.
“If Mahama says he has the power to appoint them, I am telling him that we also have the power to sack them,” he added.
The NPP Regional chairman also swore to unseat the DCE for Kwabre in the coming weeks.
“Just give me one week, I am moving to Kwabre to remove the DCE from office. I am only using the people’s power,” he stated.
