President Mahama has cut sod for the construction of an air terminal at the Kotoka International Airport.
– The ceremony was done together with the Turkish president, Recep Tayyib Erdogan.
President John Dramani Mahama in a joint sod cutting ceremony with the Turkish president, Recep Tayyib Erdogan for the construction of an air terminal at the Kotoka International Airport has called on the need for much development in Ghana’s aviation sector stating it was one of the best ways to boost economic growth through job and wealth creation.
Delivering a speech during the ceremony, President Mahama explained that Ghana was positioning itself well enough for economic growth and development.

“As per the focus of the international air transport association (IATA), there will be over 6.5 billion air passengers by 2032 and this will generate about 103 million jobs and 5.8 trillion in economic activity. There is no doubt that the strong aviation sector will boost Ghana’s economic potential and will make it more productive, effective and efficient as a result of global competition,” Mahama revealed.
A cross-section of the air terminal
The first ever visit to Ghana by a Turkish president was in 2011 by former president Mr. Abdullah Gül. The visit is documented to have deepen ties of both countries as Framework Agreement on Military Cooperation, an Agreement on Cooperation in the Fields of Health and Medical Sciences, an Agreement on Bilateral Air Services, an Agreement on the Mutual Abolition of Visas for Holders of Diplomatic Passports, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a Political Consultation Mechanism between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries were all signed.
