Mrs Charlotte Osei, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) has said the Commission has done nothing wrong by disqualifying 13 presidential nominees from running for president in the December polls.
She said the EC’s decision to disqualify the nominees was based on the law adding the Commission is amenable to any court ruling to the effect that it had erred in disqualifying the nominees.
Mrs. Osei said this at a meeting with journalists in Tamale to discuss the processes and interventions being put in place to ensure that the outcome of the 2016 elections is peaceful, credible and acceptable to all.
The meeting dubbed: “Editors Dialogue with EC Commissioners”, was organised by the Media Foundation for West Africa and it was attended by five EC Commissioners.
On Monday, October 10, the EC disqualified 13 presidential nominees for falling short of the presidential nomination requirements set under the Constitutional Instrument (C.I 94), while one other nominees’ approval is in limbo following a court case.
Mr Sulley Amadu, Deputy Chairman in-charge of Operations of the EC said every action of the EC was guided by law adding the EC would not do anything contrary to the law.
