Comments by Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah Arthur that some people are planning to rig the December 7 presidential elections is an indication that he and his boss, President John Mahama, have thrown in the towel ahead of the elections, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, presidential nominee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has said.

The vice president, during a recent tour of the Ashanti Region, said: “I will urge all of you to be extra vigilant. NDC needs help. On December 7, some people will try to cheat the NDC. Be very vigilant to ensure no one succeeds in cheating us.”

But reacting to this statement, Mr Akufo-Addo, while touring the Ablekuma West constituency in the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday October 4, as part of his campaign activities, said the vice president could smell electoral defeat due to the bad governance of the NDC, hence his decision to point accusing fingers at his opponents.

“The president and his vice have already thrown in the towel. The vice president’s comments at Asawase that some people are coming to rig the elections are an indication they have given up. If he has realised that the elections will not go in their (NDC’s) favour, he should keep quiet and not incur the wrath of people with this kind of comments.

“Ghanaians have resolved to support the NPP in this year’s elections to win and fix the economy. Revival of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Free Senior High School Education, One District, One Factory – all of these will be implemented when I come to power, God-willing. We will do these to bring jobs to Ghanaians to improve their living conditions.”

He further told the crowd: “Ghanaians have suffered under this administration, we (Ghanaians) are sitting on money yet we are hungry because of bad governance. We will reverse the situation and give you good governance.”
