The Results Of CAF Elections To FIFA

It's been a remarkable journey for Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi as he wins one of the two seats available for Africa on the FIFA Council in Cairo, Egypt on Thursday.

In a close-race, the Ghanaian FA leader polled 31 votes, one more than closest challenger Ahmad of Madagascar to win the seat alongside CAF’s vice president Almamy Kabele Camara of Guinea.

The Ghanaian FA leader is seeking to go a notch higher and faces competition from CAF’s vice president Almamy Kabele Camara of Guinea,  his counterpart from Madagascar, Ahmad, who uses just a single name, as well as the presidents of the football associations in Niger and Senegal – Hamidou Djibrilla and Augustin Senghor respectively.
Sierra Leone FA President Isha Johansen, who was recently detained at the hands of Anti-Corruption officials, is the only woman in Africa that has a vote today.
She is a close friend to the Ghana FA boss with her vote expected to go straight to the affable lawyer.
The event is currently underway with welcome speech delivered by Egypt sports minister Khaled Abdul Aziz.
Now is the turn of  Egyptian Football Association president, Hani Abo Rida as he addresses congress.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino addresses African congress in Cairo, tension is building in the air for the five candidates seeking the high office of FIFA Council.
International journalist Osasu Obayiuwana reports there is a plan to get congress to endorse a request for former FIFA boss Sepp Blatter to address them in 2017.
Infantino says: "Africa will benefit most from a proposed increase in spending in development programmes."
CAF boss Issa Hayatou takes his turn to address his 54 member associations.    
Roll call of federation presidents and Ghanaian FA leader Kwesi Nyantakyi is in there!
Gambia, Tunisia, Mauritania and Botswana are adopted as the scrutineers at this extrordinary congress at the Cairo @Marriott.
The president of Djibouti's Federation is currently explaining his proposal - No 6 on the agenda to the CAF congress.
Back to square one!1 Djibouti's proposal to Congress did not get 75% majority. Proposal has failed!!
The moment Ghanaians have been waiting for is here. Time for election of two Africans onto the FIFA Executive Council.
