The Kumasi Police have arrested a 45-year-old ex-convict for alleged car snatching within the Ashanti Region.
Veron Adams, who served a five-year jail term at the Koforidua prisons, absconded after he was granted bail by the KMA Circuit Court in Kumasi for the offence.
The police also arrested five persons – including 36-year-old Hajia Azumi – who are suspected to be Veron’s accomplices.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday September 20, Ashanti Regional Crime Officer ACP Peter Baba said: “We went further by arresting a lot of people including a lady who is involved in receiving cars that have been snatched from their victims and sold to them. This offence we are talking about is carjacking and the suspect that we have for now is Veron Adams. He is 45 years old and stays at Ofankor.
“He is actually the main suspect in this case. He comes from Accra, comes and stays in hotels in Kumasi and in the night goes about his various activities. …His modus operandi is that he will come with his accomplices… They will come to Kumasi, hire the services of the drivers, take them to obscure corners, pull guns on them, attack their victims, and snatch their vehicles from them…”
Police have since retrieved three of the vehicles which were snatched by the suspect.
