The Assin Central Member of Parliament says whoever advised Vice President Kwesi Amisah Arthur not to respond to the vice presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia did him a great service.
According to Ken Agyapong, the vice president, who is the head of the Economic Management Team is no match for the NPP’s running mate.
“Whoever told Amissah-Arthur not to respond to Bawumia really helped him because he would have been disgraced. He is no match for Bawumia” he stated.
Ken Agyapong was reacting to the Vice President’s claim that he was talked out of replying Dr. Bawumia after his state of Ghana's economy lecture.
Dr Bawumia held a lecture at the National Theatre on the theme “The State of the Ghana Economy – A Foundation of Concrete or Straw" where he stated that, despite having more resources than any government ever in the history of Ghana, the Mahama-led government has been wasteful.
However, a scheduled public lecture under the theme – “Ghana’s Economy – Separating Truth from Fiction” to be delivered by Mr. Amissah-Arthur was abruptly called off the morning of the date.
The public was assured that a new date would be communicated in the coming weeks but Mr Amissah-Arthur while addressing the teeming National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters at the party's official manifesto launch at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region said he has been advised to only respond to Dr. Bawumia’s "lies" on campaign platforms.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Ken Agyapong described as laughable the excuse being given by the Vice President.
He indicated that, Mr. Amissah-Arthur is not to blame for the decision since “he is not even regarded in his own party”.
Ken Agyapong added that, “Amissah-Arthur is a fine gentleman but in a wrong party so I find it difficult attacking him”.
