It has emerged that the flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is more influential than President John Dramani Mahama, who is seeking a re-election in the November 7 polls.

This was revealed in the Ghana’s Most Influential (GMI) Awards instituted by the Global Media Alliance, operators of ETV and Happy FM. The list, which is made up of politicians, clergymen and women, footballers, business people, traditional rulers and journalists was released live on eTV Ghana on May 11.

Nana Addo placed fourth, whereas President Mahama placed 14th out of a list of 100 personalities.

Incidentally, both Nana Addo and John Mahama are likely to face off in a presidential debate being organised by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) ahead of the November 7 polls.

Pastor Mensah Otabil, founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) and the Central University College, was first, followed by Patrick Awuah of Ashesi University and ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in that order.

According to the organisers, the GMI Awards are aimed at recognising and celebrating the top 100 most influential Ghanaian personalities as voted for by the general public. They consist of individuals whose works have positively impacted society and their community.

After public nominations were opened in November, the list was compiled and the review process started.

Public nominations were scored 40 per cent and the GMI Committee, consisting of editors, producers, and representatives of audit firm PKF & Associates, scored 60 per cent of the total. Nominees were rated on five key metrics and the results were collated and analysed with the assistance of PKF & Associates.
