Nkrumahist parties Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) have paid tribute to former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, who passed away on Sunday.

He passed on at a London hospital after battling a long ailment.

In a tribute written on behalf of his party, Professor Edmund Delle, the National Chairman of the CPP, said the former minister of state “understood multiparty democracy and that explains the cooperation and cordial relations between the CPP and NPP during his days as Minister of Information, Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City, Chief of Staff, Campaign Manager and National Chairman of the NPP”.

He recalled how he closely worked with the former Chief of Staff “when I first led the CPP as National Chairman between 2004 and 2007”.

Prof. Delle stressed that the death of Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey has robbed budding politicians of good advice and mentorship.

“His death is not only a blow to his immediate family and the NPP, which he faithfully served, but the entire country.

“As we mourn the death of this illustrious son of the nation I urge Ghanaians to reflect on the positive contributions that Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey rendered to his party and nation and emulate same.”

The PPP’s National Chairman Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond stated that the late politician’s “untiring effort to improve relations with Africans in the diaspora and modernize the capital city to promote international and domestic tourism will not be forgotten”.

He said the exploits of ‘Otanka’ in leading his party to power in 2000 as its campaign manager will be best remembered.

“On the death of this true son of Ghana, the PPP, extend our sincere sympathies and condolences to his family, his party and the entire nation.”
