OMG: Minister Refuted Claims Ho High Court

The Minister of Water Resources Works and Housing, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang Mensah, has refuted claims by a Ho High Court that he has consistently failed to turn up in court over a contempt motion against him. 

He is wanted by the court over a contempt motion filed against him in connection with properties destroyed during the execution of the Ada Sea Defence project.

Breaking News: Egypt Coach Exposed Super Eagles

Egypt’s head coach Hector Cuper has revealed his side exploited Nigeria’s weaknesses to win 1-0 in Tuesday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Alexandria.

Ramadan Sobhy’s 65th minute goal was enough to earn the Pharaohs maximum points to end the Super Eagles’ dream of reaching Gabon 2017.

The senior national team of Nigeria, the Super Eagles, have apologized to Nigerians for their inability to qualify for next year’s African Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The Super Eagles were beaten by Egypt, through a 64th minute Ramadan Sobhy goal, in a match that they needed to win to have any chance of progressing to next years competition.

OMG: Nigeria Knock Out By Egypt

Nigeria have failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations for the second successive tournament after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Egypt on Tuesday.

The withdrawal of Chad meant all results involving them in the group stage were invalidated, though it still left the Super Eagles two points adrift of Egypt, and one ahead of Tanzania, going into Tuesday's contest.

Breaking News: Obinim TV Closed Down

The National Communication Authority, NCA has taken off the screens, Obinim TV (OB TV) channel owned by controversial ‘Bishop’ Daniel Obinim.

A source at the NCA described the channels as ‘pirate channels’ explaining they operated without a licence. Other channels also have financial obligations to settle with the NCA.

At least five other channels were also taken off. They are Kessben TV, Angel TV, Care TV, and Capital TV.

ATV which is owned by businessman and former presidential candidate of the Progressive Peoples Party Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom was also affected.

Breaking News: Police Chase Sacked DCE

Police in the Brong Ahafo Region are hunting for the former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atebubu, Sampson Owusu Boateng for allegedly inciting last Tuesday’s clashes in the town that led to the burning of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party office.

Three people were arrested after clashes in Atebubu-Amantin on Tuesday after some supporters of the former DCE of the area, Sampson Owusu Boateng, and those of the Member of Parliament for the area, Sanja Nanja, clashed over Owusu Boateng’s dismissal from office.

Breaking News: Dr. Wampah Step Down

The governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Kofi Wampah says he will retire this week, according to the Reuters news service.

According to the report, Dr. Wampah whose four-year term officially ends August 5 had informed Preisdent John Mahama of his decision to retire early because this is an election year.

“I told him I wanted to leave office early and we have agreed that I will exit at the end of March. It is just fair to leave early in order to give enough room for my successor, whoever it might be, to settle down before we get to the elections,” Dr. Wampah was quoted by Reuters to have said.

He told Reuters that one of his two deputies, either Millison Narh or Abdul Nashiru Issahaku, was expected to serve as interim central bank governor until the President chooses a permanent successor.

Dr. Wampah was confirmed substantive governor on April 2, 2013 to replace Mr. Akwasi Amissah-Arthur after he had acted for a while as governor when the latter was nominated as vice-presidential candidate to President Mahama in the 2012 general elections.

After overseeing one of the most disastrous performances of the local currency, the cedi and the collapse of the hitherto booming national economy, Dr Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah seems to have finally succumbed to the massive public outcry and is said to have acquiesced to retire.

Prior to his appointment at the bank, Dr. Wampah was the Director of the Research and Statistics Department at the West African Monetary Institute.

He also worked as the Head of the Research Department of Bank of Ghana from February 1996 to February 2001, as well as working with the International Monetary Fund.

Dr Wampah holds a Masters Degree and a Ph.D in Economics from McGill University, Montreal CANADA.

Dr Wampah took over as governor in an acting capacity in April 2013 from Vice President Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur who was then the Governor of the Central Bank.

Pressure has been mounting on Wampah to resign following the arrest of his son-in-law, David McDermott, over his alleged involvement in drug trade.

President John Mahama in his State of the Nation address in February blamed the central bank governor for the microfinance crisis which monies of depositors were fraudulently used.

He is reported to have informed President John Mahama about his decision so as to allow his successor more time to settle in before the November polls.

There are two deputies to the Governor who also acts as the Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Mr Millison Narh is the First Deputy and Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku who is the second Deputy Governor.

Ghana’s vice president Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has denied any frosty relationship between him and the outgoing governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr Henry Wampah.

The MP for Old Tafo is being reported by a section of the media to have said the two do not see eye to eye and could be part of the reasons why the governor exited earlier than scheduled.

Breaking News: India Rejects Claims By Pakistan's

India has rejected Pakistan's claims that it has arrested an "Indian spy" in the restive Balochistan province.

Pakistani authorities on Tuesday released a video in which the man is shown confessing that he was involved in spying activities.

"There can be no clearer evidence of Indian interference in Pakistan," army spokesman Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa said.
